Launch of essay competition “Pale Blue Dot” (The role of the individual preserving the nature)
Pale Blue Dot
Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth taken on February 14, 1990, by the Voyager 1 space probe from a record distance of about 6 billion kilometers as part of that day’s Family Portrait series of images of the Solar System.
In the photograph, Earth’s apparent size is less than a pixel; the planet appears as a tiny dot against the vastness of space, among bands of sunlight reflected by the camera.
The dot represents home
The dot represents the place that we call home – for ourselves, for our struggles and beliefs, for the people we love and the circumstances we struggle against; however it appears small, vulnerable and probably a bit defenseless.
The idea of the essay competition is to address young, spirited and creative minds that will be engaged to explore the opportunities in front the individual to go beyond the passivity imposed by the external conditions, to act against the irregularities and most importantly: to take responsibility for his actions. It attempts to involve the participants in the environmental problematic as active and committed agents.
